Why Glyphosate-Free Hummus Matters

As a proud non-GMO hummus brand, we take a lot of pride in providing a glyphosate-free hummus option for our customers. But why does this matter?

Glyphosate is a super common herbicide used in conventional farming. It has been the subject of much concern over the last few years in the US due to its potential health risks.

In 2020, the Environmental Working Group (EWG) published a study that showed alarming levels of glyphosate in popular hummus and chickpeas brands (from Sabra to Whole Foods Market brands).

The EWG's independent tests found that nearly 90% of non-organic chickpea and hummus samples contained detectable levels of glyphosate, with some samples exceeding even the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) already permissive standards.

For consumers who prioritize health - and who love hummus - this is pretty concerning.

And we're not trying to be alarmist here, but we do think that knowledge is power, as Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, has been classified as a probable human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Despite its widespread use in conventional farming, the presence of glyphosate in everyday foods like hummus is something we should all be aware of.

We believe that hummus should be as pure, natural and tasty as possible

That's why our hummus kit is not only non-GMO but also free from glyphosate.

We work hard to ensure that our ingredients, from the chickpeas to the tahini, are grown and processed without this controversial herbicide, giving you a fresher, healthier and more wholesome option.
